About this experience
In three hours, we will help you create a comprehensive understanding of Almaty. We will walk through the roads of eastern caravans, find samples of constructivism and the 'avoska house', visit the market, and talk about Kazakh art near the opera and ballet theater. You will learn the most important aspects of the city's history and discover how it thrives today.
What to Expect
To the Roots of Kazakhstan: The walk will start from the subway station 'Zhibek Zholy' not by chance: the metro decor is dedicated to the theme of the Great Silk Road, which once passed through the city. You will learn about the origins of Kazakhstan and the role of the main trade artery in its development.
Empire and Constructivism of Almaty: On Gogol Street, we will travel back to the 1930s, to the center of the new capital of the Kazakh SSR, and talk about this era of Almaty. We will examine the Stalinist Empire-style buildings - the buildings of three commissariats, the building of the Regional Committee, and, of course, the Government House on the Old Square. And then through the park, we will see the masterpieces of constructivism - the building of the House of Communications and the Kazakh Academy of Arts.
The City's Modern Life: Through a pedestrian street with trendy bars and restaurants, we will reach the modern districts of the city. We will see the Kazattelecom building in hi-tech style and try to understand why it is called the 'avoska house' among the people. We will look at the elegant Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet and remember Kazakh art figures.
28 Panfilov Heroes Park: of course, we will not forget about the main park of Almaty. We will visit the ancient wooden cathedral, which survived the devastating earthquake of 1911, see a house in Russian style, and a grand monument dedicated to the victory in World War II.
Green Bazaar - the largest market in Almaty, where we can also stop by upon request. And from here, return to the starting point, passing by the Arasan Baths complex.
