About this experience
The leaning Pisan tower - is not of the first importance, not even the second, you can put it in third place, but then the tower will have to strain and overshadow a multitude of stunning attractions. Monumental cemetery. This is not easy... But let's go in order - as you have already understood, I offer you a tour of the Square of Miracles in Pisa, where the leaning tower managed to cast a shadow over its glory on many outstanding attractions.
Program
For example, the Pisan Cathedral is no less interesting, a five-naved, almost unique in Italy, 11th century... With mosaics from the beginning of the 14th century and artifacts by Giovanni Pisano! Or simply the largest Baptistery in Italy, from the 12th century. As for the aforementioned Monumental cemetery, it has 2000 sq.m of frescoes...
What is there in the tower, besides its remarkable tilt? History! The history of its construction, the numerous attempts to straighten it, which began practically from the moment of its first, still insignificant lean of just 4 cm.
During the tour, I will tell you the history of the city's religious center, historically called the Square of the Cathedral, and only since the beginning of the 20th century, at the hands of Gabriele D'Annunzio (a famous Italian writer), the square was renamed to the Square of Miracles. The tour includes, in addition to the historical aspect of the city's development, an overview of monuments with an architectural bias, with visits to the Cathedral, Baptistery, and Monumental Cemetery. There will also be a separate discussion about the tower, I promise! How it was built, how it was straightened, and how it was saved after the disaster-straighteners in the 20th century! Those willing to "conquer" the tower briskly climb 294 steps, a claustrophobic guide stays below, you will climb between the two walls of the tower.
Also on the program is an overview of the former main political square of the city - the Knights' Square, which the Medicis (the ruling Florentine dynasty), having captured the city in the early 16th century, decided to rebuild into an educational center for the offspring of wealthy families and turned it into a "blacksmith shop" of knights, and in our time, this center has become a "blacksmith shop" for personnel for the Italian Parliament.
