Individual Tour to Lucca and Pisa from Livorno Port (for Cruise Travelers and More)
About this experience
Pisa - bright, warlike, once selfish and touchingly sad today. Lucca - lovely and the most mysterious of all Tuscany cities, so significant in the past and simply charming today. I will introduce you to the past and present of these cities, show iconic historical landmarks, and reveal the secrets they have passed down to our times.
What to Expect
The Charm of Aristocratic Lucca
First on our route is Lucca. It hides its history behind powerful walls and bastions, in the labyrinths of narrow streets, Romanesque churches, medieval tower houses, bell towers, and Renaissance palaces. During the one and a half hour tour, we will stroll along the fortified wall with a plane tree alley. We will see the Cathedral of San Martino, the church of San Michele with its airy facade, the Basilica of San Frediano, the Amphitheater square, and the Guinigi tower with dwarf oaks at the top. All these city attractions carefully preserve the past of the small independent republic of Lucca.
Stories of Medieval Pisa
Next, we will move to Pisa. Its past lives today in the monuments on the Square of Miracles. They are the true witnesses of the prosperity and power of the first Italian maritime power. Upon your request, we will visit the cathedral or the Campo Santo cemetery, where you will get acquainted with the works of art from the early Renaissance period. In detail, you will learn the incredibly interesting history of the most famous bell tower - the Leaning Tower. I will also tell you about the architects who built the tower with only one thought: 'How to save it!'
