About this experience
You have a great opportunity to visit two amazing Italian cities in one day! You will see the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and learn why it still stands. Explore the non-touristy side of Pisa and take a stroll along the Arno river. Immerse yourself in the cozy atmosphere of Lucca, untouched by time, and enjoy a cup of coffee in the square of the former colosseum.
What to expect
If Pisa is known worldwide for its tower, which attracts millions of people every day, Lucca cannot offer you bright attractions. But its atmosphere is permeated with history and a special spirit, as this city was once the capital of the Tuscan territory. During the excursion, you will visit the most picturesque corners of these cities and learn their history.
Pisa
We will walk through the popular and non-touristy spots of the city. We will enjoy the views along the Arno river, take beautiful photos, and head to the legendary tower. If desired, you can climb it.
You will learn:
- why Pisa was once a great power,
- how the Medicis tried to restore the city's economy,
- what is the secret of the stability of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and what almost led to its fall,
- why in ancient times Pisa resembled Venice,
- how many years the Leaning Tower of Pisa has stood and when it first leaned.
Lucca
We will visit the Amphitheatre square, climb the tower with a small garden, optionally visit one of the aristocratic palaces that have been preserved in Lucca. Opera lovers will be interested to visit the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini and see the house where he was born. Now a museum is located in its walls. For the bravest, I will suggest a ride on four-wheeled bikes on the city wall of Lucca. We will also definitely visit a restaurant where you will taste local cuisine dishes.
