And most importantly, you will try all 6 main local types of Altbier, discover how different it can be, and choose the best one for yourself.
What to expect
Informative walk between bars
You will not just visit several bars - you will get to know the city on the way from one establishment to another and learn about its history without leaving the historic center of Dusseldorf. The bars are located in such a way that it is impossible to pass by some iconic landmarks. You will see old churches, a preserved part of the palace, a monument to important events for Dusseldorf, and a tavern selling the famous herbal liqueur. I will tell you about the main milestones in the city's history and why Elector Johann Wilhelm was so beloved by the locals.
Establishments' secrets and ubiquitous Altbier
The Altbier style is unique to this region of Germany, and in Russia, it is only known to big beer connoisseurs. You will peek into the bars at historical breweries, each with its own highlight. Somewhere you will find a cash register in a converted confessional, somewhere - a recommendation not to drink beer with schnapps. I will introduce you to the main stages of the production of this drink, its main styles, and the peculiarities of Altbier as one of them. In each of the bars, you will try Altbier as seen by the local brewers and try to catch the flavor notes that differentiate, seemingly, the same beer (you will succeed, even if you are not a connoisseur of this type of alcohol). And at the same time, you will notice that the waiters in Dusseldorf's bars do not behave as you might expect from them - this is another local beer etiquette tradition.
