About this experience
I have prepared an exciting route for you through the European and Asian parts of Istanbul - perfect for those who have already seen the main city attractions. We will leisurely stroll through the most beautiful and unusual neighborhoods - Nisantasi, Cihangir, and Cengelkoy. Each of them is like a separate story, and I invite you to plunge into it!
What to Expect
- We will take you to one of the most expensive and prestigious districts of Istanbul - Nisantasi, where luxury is bordering mass-market. Optionally, we'll stop here for some light shopping.
- We will smoothly move to the bohemian district of Cihangir, beloved by artists, musicians, poets, and various kinds of performers. You will enjoy the architecture and atmosphere of this place, admire the stunning view of the Bosphorus.
- We will descend to the Galata Port and explore its territory, then head to the Karakoy district. If you wish, we'll stop for tea in an amazing place where the most delicious baklava in Istanbul has been prepared since the mid-19th century (according to locals!).
- We will board a ferry and enjoy views of the Bosphorus and Istanbul from the water. You will see Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Galata Tower, and other landmarks.
- We will soon find ourselves on the Asian side in cozy and hidden from tourists' eyes neighborhoods of Kuzguncuk and Cengelkoy. You will learn why 'outsiders' are not allowed in these places and why there are no hotels or apartments for renting to foreigners. I will show you a huge vegetable garden for locals, where you can rent a plot and grow vegetables. We will also visit a tea garden under an oak tree and admire a 180-year-old plane tree.
- For fans of Turkish TV series, I will suggest visiting several locations where the series 'The Little Swallow' were filmed.
During the tour, I will tell you about the traditions and lifestyle of local residents, reveal interesting facts from the city's history and modern life. You will learn why there is such a division by neighborhoods, who lives in them, and how a particular neighborhood is connected to the Ottoman and Byzantine Empires.
Organizational Details
- I conduct the tour, but sometimes my colleagues may substitute for me
- We do not visit mosques and museums. All landmarks are observed from the outside.
- We can slightly adjust the tour program according to your wishes
- It is advisable to have an Istanbulkart travel card with you, as we will be using public transportation. If you don't have one, I will help you purchase it (cost - 70 lira for the card + 140-150 lira for travel).
- Additionally (if desired), lunch and tea/coffee along the way are paid separately
