About this experience
Cairo is not just about museums and pyramids. We invite you to go beyond the tourist areas and get a more comprehensive understanding of the Egyptian capital! We will show you a different Cairo: surprising, shocking, and delightful. You will walk through the 'City of the Dead' and the 'City of Garbage Collectors', visit the magnificent Al-Azhar Park, and explore the grand Cave Monastery.
What to expect
City of Garbage Collectors. We will walk through the poor district of Manshiyat Naser on the eastern outskirts of the city, where garbage from all over Cairo is brought. It is inhabited by the Zabbaleen, generational garbage collectors. You will discover the peculiarities of their origin and daily life.
Monastery of St. Simeon. You will visit the largest religious structure in the Middle East, accommodating up to 20,000 parishioners. The role of traditional church arches is played by the walls of the cave here.
City of the Dead. This vast necropolis at the foot of the Mokattam Mountain is called the 'City of the Dead'. It is a Muslim cemetery where ordinary people and nobility have been buried for centuries. You will see how ordinary tombs coexist here with magnificent mausoleums.
Al-Azhar Park. Previously, it was a landfill of construction waste. Now it is a magnificent green oasis near the Old City. You will stroll along its alleys, combining modern design and the style of ancient Islamic gardens.
al-Muizz Street and Khan el-Khalili Market. This is the heart and soul of Old Cairo. You will walk through the winding ancient streets where everything imaginable is sold.
