About this experience
In addition to the pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx, Cairo hides many treasures - and the most colorful ones will be revealed to you on our journey through the 3 epochs of the city. You will feel the breath of eternity at the Saqqara pyramids, find yourself at the eastern bazaar amidst the aromas of spices and jewelry masterpieces. You will see the other side of Cairo in the City of Garbage Collectors and sail on a boat along the great Nile.
What to Expect
Saqqara: immersion into Ancient Egypt
The Saqqara complex is less popular than the Giza pyramids - but no less interesting! You will see the world's first step pyramid, created by the legendary Imhotep. You can visit the Serapeum - the burial place of the sacred Apis bulls. You will also admire the decorations of the tombs of Mereruka and Kagemni with reliefs, drawings, and hieroglyphs, depicting the life and traditions of the Egyptians.
Colorful Khan El-Khalili Bazaar
We will then transport you to medieval Cairo - with its eastern bazaars, a palette of spices, and countless treasures. At the Khan El-Khalili market, which is over 7 centuries old, you will see craft shops of jewelers, weavers, and glassblowers. You can haggle in the spice shops and visit Cairo's oldest coffeehouse.
City of Garbage Collectors: another Cairo
The city within a city - this is how the Coptic quarter on the outskirts of Cairo, where its poorest residents, the garbage collectors, live, is called. You will see the underbelly of the capital, rarely revealed to tourists. We will discuss how stores, schools, and bakeries coexist with mountains of garbage and why people have been living here for generations without planning to leave. And we will also see the ancient Church of Saint Simeon the Tanner, who lived in the City of Garbage Collectors in the 10th century.
Sailing on the Nile by motorboat!
Finally, we will take a boat ride on the great Nile, enjoying the view of the city center with hotels and the National Museum from the water. Along the way, we will talk about the significance, history, and characteristics of one of the world's longest rivers.
