About this experience
Cairo is not just about the pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. It is much bigger, more interesting, and diverse. We will visit the colorful Coptic Quarter, see the magnificent Mosque of Muhammad Ali, and the Saladin Citadel. We will stroll through 'Garbage City' and discover the monastery carved in the rock.
What to expect
We will visit the most interesting areas of the city. The program includes:
Coptic Quarter. In the oldest quarters of the city, you will visit the Babylon Fortress, a synagogue, and ancient temples. Among them are the Hanging Church, the Monastery of Saint George, and the Church of Saint Paul, built on the ruins of a cave where the Holy Family hid.
Islamic Cairo. The Egyptian capital is rightly called the 'city of a thousand minarets.' We will visit the majestic Saladin Citadel and the famous Mosque of Muhammad Ali. I will tell you their history and decode the features of Islamic architecture.
'Garbage City'. We will take a walk through the poor district of Manshiyat Naser, where garbage from all over Cairo is brought and where the hereditary garbage collectors live. Here you will also see the impressive Monastery of Saint Simeon the Tanner, carved in the rock.
