What to Expect
World Musical Tradition... Why Vienna?
To understand why out of all the cities in Europe Vienna is more closely related to key musical schools and movements, we will talk about the imperial tradition, about dynastic marriages with Italian princesses who brought the fashion for Italian opera to Vienna. You will hear about extraordinarily talented emperors: some of them composed music themselves and almost all of them at least participated in chamber music performances in their childhood. I will also tell you about famous musicians whom the imperial capital attracted over the centuries. About those like Haydn, who come here as children and start their career in the Vienna Boys' Choir. And about those like Mozart, who came to Vienna as mature musicians seeking fame at the imperial court.
In Mozart's Footsteps
On the tour, you will trace how Mozart tried to establish himself in Vienna, where he gave his subscription concerts and how he met his future wife Constanze. You will walk in the footsteps of the great composer - past the Masonic lodge he visited, past the house where the opera 'The Marriage of Figaro' was written. You will understand the essence of the rivalry between Mozart and Salieri, and why Vienna rejected 'Don Giovanni', while Prague embraced it. Finally, you will learn how the last days of the great composer passed and how it came to be that no one still knows the exact place of his burial.
Who is this tour for?
For all those interested in Vienna's musical traditions, adults and children from 10 years old, as well as those who are not visiting the city for the first time and want to see it from a new perspective.
