About this experience
Welcome to the city where the rulers of Bavaria lived for 700 years! On a private tour, you will get to know them better. I will show you the structures that symbolized the power of the Wittelsbachs: churches and the Residence, Ludwig II's little Florence, and the Hofgarten. You will explore the treasures of the family jewel box and understand how Munich changed along with the status of the ruling dynasty.
What to expect
Symbols of power: structures of the Wittelsbach era
During our walking tour of the city, you will see all the main sights of Munich, built at the behest of the royal family. You will visit the first residence of the royal family and Ludwig II's little Florence. You will learn where the Italian princess Henrietta is buried and examine the tombstone of Eugène de Beauharnais. In the court park Hofgarten, I will tell you who couldn't walk here until the 19th century, and in the church Frauenkirche, I will explain who the cenotaph belongs to. On the tour, you will trace how Munich gradually became a royal city and what influence the change in the status of the Wittelsbachs had on its architecture.
Artifacts and treasures: the dynasty's treasure trove
Duke of Bavaria Albert the Wise acquired an ivory casket back in the Middle Ages. You will admire this relic and its contents. Rubies and emeralds, diamond jewelry of queens, and the reliquary of the emperor - you will see all the treasures of the Wittelsbachs. I will reveal which members of the dynasty collected these treasures and point out the most interesting ones: the crown of the first king of Bavaria, Napoleon's wife's vanity case, and the statue of Saint George.
