I invite you to a tour of the luxurious summer residence of the Bavarian rulers - the 'Palace of the Nymphs'. What to expect
Luxurious palace interiors
You will walk through the parade and residential rooms of the palace and learn for what amusements these beautiful interiors with lavish inlays and rich frescoes were created. The central stone hall for balls and receptions will impress you with its two-story height and the magnificent ceiling will tell you about the Baroque era. You will peek into cabinets and bedrooms, the decoration of which will help unravel the secrets of the private lives of dukes and electors... Passion ran high here!
Meeting the beauties
In the famous 'Gallery of Beauties', you will see over 30 portraits of very attractive women. Through whispered tales, you will learn why alongside princesses, simple maids also appeared here, and why the paintings depict both Germans, and Jewish women, and Greek women. I will tell you about the fatal seductress Lola Montez, because of whom King Ludwig I abdicated. As well as how the love affairs of the Bavarian ruler were reflected in the name of a street in an Italian city.
Park ensemble
When building Nymphenburg, the Bavarian aristocrats did not forget about the magnificent park: you will enjoy a walk along elegant pavilions and fountains. Here, sculptures of ancient Greek gods and goddesses will tell you their frightening stories. And by taking a closer look at one of them, you will laugh at a modern restorer's mistake. Among the shady alleys, you will admire a world-class example of elegant Rococo - the tiny Amalienburg Palace. Besides, you will learn the purpose of the grotto Magdalena, resembling ruins, and see Europe's first heated pool.
The best German 'car industry'
In the carriage museum, you will see the ceremonial sledges and carriages of Bavarian aristocrats: from children's to adults. It is here that you will find Emperor Charles VII's pompous carriage and truly fairytale carriages of 'Swan' Bavarian King Ludwig II.
