What to Expect
History lesson
Through events and facts, you will trace Germany's destiny from World War I to 1945. We will also touch upon the topics of post-war Munich rebirth. As a result, you will understand how the Germans' attitude towards the Nazi ideology changed and how they perceive this milestone in the country's history today.
During the walk, you will see:
- Hofbräuhaus - the famous beer restaurant where the program of the National Socialist party was announced. We will talk about the atmosphere prevailing in Germany at that time when the NSDAP was gaining strength.
- Odeonsplatz, where you will hear about the party's first attempt to seize power and the consequences for German history of the 'Beer Hall Putsch' of 1923.
- Brienerstrasse: it was on this street that the Gestapo building and the Brown House - the party's official residence - were located. We will discuss where the NSDAP got the money from and why German industrialists and financial magnates placed their bets on the National Socialists.
- Königsplatz - at the square, you will see the former residence of the Führer, where the Munich Agreement of 1938 was signed, the administrative building of the NSDAP, and the ruins of the Pantheon of Honor. We will talk about the party's architectural plans to turn Munich into the 'capital of the movement'.
- Palace of Justice and Church of the Catholic Fraternity, where you will learn about the young heroes of the Society for Resistance 'White Rose' and a Catholic priest who declared that 'a Catholic cannot be a Nazi'.
- Marienplatz - the walk will end at the central square in front of the Old Town Hall, where we will remember the tragic events of the 'Night of Broken Glass'.
If desired, we can continue the tour and visit the Munich Museum 'National Socialism: Documentation Center'.
