About this experience
This tour will open the door to the world of Michelangelo - one of the most brilliant sculptors in the history of mankind. You will learn about the master's life in Florence, unravel his extraordinary character and monumental ideas. Afterwards, you will delve into the intentions behind Michelangelo's masterpieces, gathered in the Accademia Gallery and the Medici Chapel.
What to Expect
Florence through Michelangelo's eyes
We will walk through the most significant places in Florence, connected to the life and work of Michelangelo Buonarroti. You will see the first residence of the Medici dynasty, where the master lived for several years. Here we will talk about how the most influential family in Florence appreciated the talent and ingenuity of the young man and sheltered him in their palace. I will help you understand Michelangelo's attitude towards painting, sculpture, and architecture, tell you about the rivalry in the Renaissance era, and how envy manifested among the colleagues of the young genius.
Genius in the details
Then we will visit two museums showcasing the outstanding works of the sculptor - the Medici Chapel and the Accademia Gallery. Here I will tell you how Michelangelo achieved perfection in anatomical virtuosity, about his unique way of working with stone, and the moment of ideation. You will immerse yourself in the philosophy of the genius and understand the meaning of the phrase: 'I take a stone and carve away all that is not the statue.' Carefully examine each of the master's masterpieces: the allegories of 'Day and Night', 'Morning and Evening', 'The Four Prisoners', 'Saint Matthew', as well as the original monumental sculpture 'David', carved from a single block of marble. You will see how Michelangelo masterfully uses details to bring stone to life, express passion and emotions, and 'decode' the intentions and symbols embedded by the master in each work.
