About this experience
Visitors to Florence often complain about not having enough time: there are just too many famous places and names in this city. My tour will help you see important masterpieces that shaped the development of world art and save time. You will admire Michelangelo's sculptures and see how they are created from a block of stone. You will also appreciate the beauty of Florentine mosaic and uncover the secrets of the renowned dynasty.
What to Expect
Gallery of the Academy
Most people come here to see the world-famous masterpiece by Michelangelo - the statue of David. But I want to show you this master from a different perspective, introducing you to his sculptures 'Slaves', created in the non-finito technique (Ital. non-finito - unfinished). Why didn't the master finish the works? Was there not enough time? Did he change his mind? We will discuss this when we meet.
We will also explore the plaster cast gallery of Bartolini, a talented sculptor of the 19th century. As viewers, we are interested not only in the final product but also in how a statue is born from a block of marble. I will tell you everything about sculpting and making copies from A to Z.
Medici Chapel
This museum captivates even the most experienced traveler with its decor: Florentine mosaic. Together, we will examine the stunning painting in stone. In the crypt of the Chapel, we will lift century-old accusations from some members of the Medici family: from Ferdinand I in the murder of his brother to Anna Maria in having a 'bad love disease'. I will also tell you about the serious scientific investigation of 2004, the 'Medici Project', when all burials of members of the legendary dynasty were examined.
Organizational Details
Additional expenses: tickets to both museums (12 euros for the Academy - it's better to buy online, 10 euros for the Chapel - you can buy at the ticket office).
