Exploring Michelangelo: the 'sinfulness' and 'divinity' of the great genius
About this experience
Genius and scoundrel, titan and misanthrope, fiery and arrogant traitor - all these contrasting definitions belong to Michelangelo. I invite you to delve into the life of this great man. You will understand how he worked on the tomb of the Pope, see the statue of David and the Medici Chapel, and grasp what inspired Andrei Konchalovsky to reflect on the humanity of a genius.
What to Expect
Immerse yourself in the most tumultuous creative period of Michelangelo's life
Fate of the famous Italian is complex and contradictory. I will help you unravel its intricacies and get to know the multifaceted nature of the creator. I will tell you about his work with pontiffs and how many popes changed during Michelangelo's life. I will explain what his contemporaries called him and why he was so often bestowed with unflattering epithets, in addition to many praises. You will explore the brightest pages of the artist's creative biography. You will understand how he simultaneously labored on creating tombs for members of the two most influential families of the Apennine Peninsula. And the leitmotif of our tour will be the plots from the painting 'The Sin' by Andrei Konchalovsky: they will expose the vulnerable soul of Michelangelo and his vices.
The Secrets of Immortal Works
The tour will start at the Academy Gallery of Fine Arts. Here is stored one of the main symbols of the city and Michelangelo's work - the original statue of David. Here you will also see the unfinished statues 'Prisoners,' originally intended for Pope Julius II's tomb. I will reveal all the secrets and thrilling twists of creating these great masterpieces. After the Gallery, we will explore the facade of the palace where Lorenzo the Magnificent welcomed the fifteen-year-old genius, and finally, visit the Medici Chapel. The secrets of this place and the marble image that inspired Andrei Konchalovsky will bring you closer to Michelangelo.
