About this experience
When Adam and Eve were expelled from paradise, Eve managed to take a lemon with her: she promised to leave it in a place resembling paradise. Menton was honored with such a choice - by visiting this city, you will understand her choice. You will stroll through the Biovès gardens, admire the architecture of old streets, and taste citrus sweets. And pleasant floral scents will accompany us throughout the entire walk.
What to expect
Lemon Festival and Paradise Gardens
Menton's climate is very favorable for citrus fruits, and every February in the Biovès gardens the world's largest exhibition of lemon and orange figures takes place. Incredible sculptures will amaze your imagination - I will reveal their meaning and the significance of the festival for the city. In other months, we will enjoy the beauty of these gardens with seasonal flowers, plants, fountains, and sculptures.
Flavors of Menton
Of course, here they make sweets, drinks, and cosmetic products from lemons. You will learn about the most popular citrus dishes of this region, and in a small shop-museum you will taste the famous lemon treats: pastilles, limoncello, cookies, and oils.
International Menton
Walking along the main pedestrian street, we will climb to the Old Town: you will discover beautiful views of Italy. The bright Italian architecture of the houses and the baroque decoration of the Church of the Archangel Michael will amaze with their grandeur. We will find signs reminding of the Grimaldi dynasty - I will tell you about the times when Menton belonged to the principality of Monaco. We will walk along the paved streets leading to the castle cemetery, where Russian emigrants are buried, and talk about the Russian diaspora that lived in Menton since 1860. On the Promenade du Soleil, we will see a bastion where works of the talented artist and director Jean Cocteau are kept. And the ancient 15th-century tower will soon appear before us in a new form after renovation.
