About this experience
Picasso called Antibes a city that knows what the joy of life is. Our tour will be in such a mood! We won't be reminiscing about ancient Romans. But we will talk about the secrets of French longevity, mentality, and cuisine. In the hilltop church - about the gifts of sailors and ancient traditions. And in the end, we will have a picnic with magical views of the French Riviera.
What to Expect
Antibes Promenades: Life on the French Riviera
We will meet at Port Vauban and take a stroll along the sea and beaches. Along the way, you will see the 100-year-old lighthouse and maybe encounter the largest yacht in the Mediterranean Sea. From the Amiral de Grasse promenade, you will see a panoramic view of the picturesque Grimaldi Castle, where the Picasso Museum is located. I will briefly cover the history of the famous collection and mention other famous people who found inspiration in Antibes. You will also pass by Ponteil Beach and the Antibes Yacht Club regatta. Throughout, I will talk about life on the French Riviera, the secrets of local longevity, national cuisine, and the French mentality. And if you wish, I will teach you a few useful words and phrases in French.
Church-Museum Notre-Dame de la Garoupe
After passing another port, we will climb a pine-covered hill. Away from the noise of the seaside resort lies a fascinating church. Stepping inside, you will see that it does not resemble ordinary Catholic churches; it is more like a museum with many curious exhibits. I will tell you about the legends and ancient tradition of sailors and residents of coastal towns bringing gifts (drawings, paintings, ship models), seeking help from the Virgin Mary, or expressing gratitude for their salvation. Additionally, here you will see items brought from Sevastopol in the Crimean War.
Picnic and the Best French Riviera Ice Cream
To conclude the walk, we will have a picnic at the top of the hill, offering a breathtaking view of the French Riviera - Antibes, Cannes, Nice, and Saint-Tropez. The return path will follow the same route. Upon returning to Old Antibes, I will show you where you can buy arguably the best ice cream on the entire coast. And on this sweet note, we will bid farewell.
