What to Expect
Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery at the foot of the mountains
First, you will visit the monastery of Chrysorrogiatissa, nestled in greenery, founded in the 12th century in a picturesque corner of the mountain range. You will learn about the rich history of this place, explore a collection of icons and liturgical utensils from the 17th-20th centuries, and see the unique icon of the Golden Pomegranate Mother of God. Not every pilgrim knows that the pomegranate is considered one of the attributes of the Mother of God and symbolizes to Christians a heavenly gift, immortality, and resurrection.
Stories and legends of the ancient Kykkos Monastery
The next stop on our journey is the Kykkos Monastery, built on the slope of the Troodos Mountains, amidst mighty pines and cedars. This is one of the oldest and most popular medieval monasteries in Cyprus, surrounded by numerous stories, legends, and beliefs, some of which you will hear on the tour. And of course, the monastery will amaze you with its beauty, interior decoration, and amazing mosaics.
Relics of the Trooditissa Monastery
Next, we will visit the secluded male monastery of Trooditissa, located among the mountain villages of Troodos, captivating with an atmosphere of solitude and serenity. Here you will see the miraculous icon of Trooditissa Mother of God - according to legend, it was painted by the Apostle Luke and helps women experience the joy of motherhood. In addition, the monastery houses a leather belt adorned with precious buckles, by wearing which a woman can be cured of infertility. Afterward, you will descend to the winemaking village of Omodos and have lunch at a traditional tavern in the mountainous Cyprus.
