About this experience
Located in the hipster neighborhood of Malasaña, the Madrid History Museum is a great place to explore the city's past. A guided tour is the most efficient way to learn about the history of Madrid. In just two hours, you will gain insights into the lives of ordinary citizens and titled gentlemen of the Spanish capital over the last 400 years.
What to Expect
With the help of paintings, sculptures, and other exhibits in the museum, as well as my commentary, you will not only understand the history of Madrid but also visualize it. We will discuss and visually explore:
- The key moments in the history of the city and Spain as a whole: for example, how Madrid survived the Napoleonic era, what life was like in the city under the rule of José Bonaparte, why he was called Pepe "Bottle", and how the concept of Spaniards as a nation emerged.
- The social life in Madrid: how people entertained themselves and flirted, what professions were popular among the Spaniards, what different social classes ate and drank, how they moved around.
- The various factories in Madrid and the exquisite products manufactured in them.
We will conclude our meeting in a traditional Madrilenian establishment near the museum, where you can share your impressions and fully experience the city's atmosphere over a glass of vermouth or grape juice.
Organizational Details
The museum is closed on Mondays, as well as on January 1st, January 6th, May 1st, and December 24th, 25th, and 31st. Entrance to the museum is free.
