During this individual tour, you will witness incredibly beautiful natural sites and learn about the history of Adjara, its traditions, way of life, and culture.
What to expect
Magnificent Machakhela Gorge and ancient arched bridges
To explore the beauty of our land, a visit to Machakhela Gorge is a must. It is untouched by human hands, where the power of the mountain river with peacefully swaying suspension bridges, roaring waterfalls, magical cliffs, and a road to the sky make you stop and admire the gorge's landscapes. Apart from the spectacular views, Machakhela Gorge is renowned for its arched bridges, one of which dates back to the times of Queen Tamar. It is considered one of the largest among the 25 arched bridges in Adjara. During the tour, you will learn about its construction and some brave souls even jump from the bridge into the water - there's a sandy beach below, maybe you'll feel like trying it too.
History and traditional crafts of Adjara
By the Machakhela Gun monument - one of the local landmarks - we will talk about the weapon craft that made the masters of Machakhela famous throughout Adjara. You will discover the history of the ancient fortress of Gvara, which has stood for over 15 centuries, and understand its strategic purpose. I will reveal the secret of the beauty of the Tschemlara arched bridge, preserved since the 12th century. At the ethnographic museum housed in a former Turkish mosque, you will see items preserving the memory of generations. You will observe unique artifacts: models of ancient dwellings, weapons, samples of household utensils, products of craftsmen, and silver jewelry. Visiting this museum will enhance your understanding of Adjara, its history, and way of life.
