About this experience
Wonderful waterfalls, historical monuments, a fairy-tale boxwood forest, hanging and stone arched bridges of Queen Tamar - all this will be part of our journey through the Machakhela Gorge. I will show you our natural gems and share intriguing stories from the past. And if you wish, I will arrange a Georgian feast with folklore for you. Let's explore Adjara!
What to Expect
- Three arched bridges from the times of Queen Tamar (in the villages of Makhuntseti, Mirveti, and Tskhalmart). They date back to the 12th-13th centuries and are excellently preserved to this day.
- Three picturesque waterfalls in the villages of Makhuntseti, Mirveti, and Chhutuneti. You can swim in them if you wish during the summer.
- Confluence of two mountain rivers - Chorokhi (flowing from Turkey) and Adjarskhalia (flowing through Georgia).
- Machakhela Rifle monument, which was produced in this region during the 17th-19th centuries. It was the craft of gun-making that made the masters of Machakhela famous throughout Adjara.
- Suspension bridges which locals still use to get home. For travelers, it is a real adventure: the planks under your feet creak and the bridge sways from side to side with each step, which can be a bit intimidating at first. But once you get used to it, you can sit on the bridge, dangling your legs over the rushing river, and enjoy the scenery.
- WWII-era embrasure. It is an extremely durable metal-concrete structure with small rooms for soldiers and ammunition storage.
- Viewing platform overlooking the mountains, gorge, and quaint rural houses - truly pastoral!
If you wish, I will organize a Georgian feast with family folklore and a dance masterclass in national costumes for you. Additionally, activities like zip-lining, boating, quad biking, go-karting, and rafting are available.
Organizational Details
- The excursion takes place in a comfortable Toyota Prius. For increased comfort or for 5-6 people, the trip is conducted in a Mazda Mpv minivan with an additional charge of 120 € per vehicle for all.
- I will pick you up from your accommodation in Batumi and drop you back after the excursion.
- The excursion lasts 8-9 hours and it's best to depart between 09:00-09:30 in the morning.
Additional Options (optional)
- Lunch at a cafe
- Georgian feast with family folklore and national dances - 20 € per person
- Quad biking - 55 € per quad (1-2 people)
- Boat ride - 55 € per boat (up to 6 people)
