About this experience
I want to introduce you to Baroque Rome and the work of famous architects of that time. Why Rome is considered the cradle of Baroque? What does this word mean? Is it true that in the 19th century the word Baroque caused smiles and surprise? Why is it also called the papal style? And who are Bernini and Borromini? You will learn all about this during a walk through the architectural heritage of this era.
Roman Baroque
The Rome that we see in most of the center of the Eternal City remains the Rome of the 17th century. Yes, there are architectural masterpieces of the neoclassical, romantic, and fascist eras. But still, it is the Rome of the Baroque era.
In architecture, the main elements are curved lines, intricate figures, elaborate decor, and rich materials. This style was born here, gained its special momentum here, and then faded away after about 70 years. German, English, Spanish, and St. Petersburg Baroque have completely different faces. In Rome, it is brighter, bolder, more scandalous, and more pompous.
Borromini and Bernini
The unrecognized genius Borromini, who dedicated his entire life to architecture, a great intellectual of his time, who ended his life by burning all his drawings and remained misunderstood, unaccepted, an outsider. However, his works are still considered canons of architecture for all nations.
Bernini - a completely different story, happy, full of brilliance, wealth, success, ambitions, and romantic adventures. It seemed like fate was laying out the red carpet for him. For fifty years, he devoted himself to the decoration of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. He lived a long, fulfilling life and left Rome with theatrical squares, beautiful fountains, unique churches, and stunning sculptures. He wrote: 'I conquered marble and made it as plastic as wax'.

I consider myself a pretty experienced sightseer, but from the walk with Vita, we really got what we wanted. She tells very engagingly, and loves what she talks about. The architecture of Rome by these masters definitely deserves a separate tour! I recommend
