Love Locations in Tbilisi
About this experience
Infatuation is a state in which Tbilisi, a city of legends and a living embodiment of romantic fairy tales, has been living from time immemorial. Here they love loudly, noisily, sing songs under the windows of their passion with friends. Here they read poems and give flowers for no reason - for a good mood and for a beautiful stranger. Here they love old stories about love and every house keeps its touching secrets. During a walk through atmospheric streets, parks, and courtyards, I will tell you about sentimental episodes from the lives of famous Tiflissians, introduce you to the traditions of balls, chivalry, and dowry. And I will also teach you Georgian toasts about love, which will come in handy for you at the final wine tasting!
What to Expect
Tiflisi romance on Rustaveli Avenue
The walk will begin on the main street of Tbilisi, where every house is a whole era, associated with famous artists, writers, first guild merchants, and even royal persons.
- Near the monument to Shota Rustaveli, a medieval poet, philosopher, mystic, and courtier of Queen Tamar, you will hear a legend about a secret love at the royal court and love secrets in the poem, about the Stalin-translated line 'The Knight' and the tradition of giving a manuscript as a valuable part of the dowry at Georgian weddings.
- In the famous profitable Melik-Azaryants House, I will tell you a sad romantic story, as well as about ghosts and fires, underground secrets, and tears in the stone.
- In the Tiflis yards with carved balconies, we will remember the beautiful girls who stood behind lace curtains waiting for their lovers.
- Near the Chavchavadze House, you will hear the story of the love of a beautiful princess and Griboyedov, as well as learn about the first bottled wine of Kindzmarauli and the interior decor from Empress Catherine herself.
- And of course, we will not overlook Niko Pirosmani with his million scarlet roses for a French actress.
Interesting Notes Along the Way
You will find out why Tbilisi is often called the Little Paris and the town of Signagi on the eastern outskirts of Georgia - the Georgian Las Vegas. Also, other curious stories about the residents of Tbilisi will intrude into the romantic narrative - about the patron and cognac king Davit Sarajishvili; the chess champion and son of a Tiflis janitor - Tigran Petrosian; Rodin's student - Toidze; the first tour operators and their office on the avenue. And also about the Lagidze waters and the first classical gymnasium where all the presidents of Georgia studied.
And again about love - balls, storytellers, and toasts!
In the garden of Count Vorontsov, I will tell you about social gatherings, strangers, and passionate cavaliers. And then you will find yourself in a real fairy tale - near the whimsical Rezo Gabriadze Theater and the 'angel tower'. Walking along Gourmand Street, you will hear about the penultimate Georgian King Irakli II and his beloved queen, whose tears still water the old city wall. You will make a romantic wish with Tamada, who, according to legend, is almost 9000 years old, and rehearse Georgian toasts about love.
Abanotubani, Bridge of Love, and Wine Tasting
Before approaching the origins of the city, you can visit a caravanserai turned into a museum and exhibition of artifacts from bygone eras. And then head to the sulfur baths, where I will tell you about Pushkin, Dumas, Hanuma, and scenes in these very baths. On the way to the small waterfall in the Fig Gorge, you will have another chance to perform a dream-fulfillment ritual on the symbolic Bridge of Love. And in the end, I will take you to a wonderful wine cellar for a tasting of Georgian wines from qvevri - where toasts and legends about love will come in handy!
If desired, the walk will end at one of the local establishments, where you will appreciate the variety of Georgian flavors - from chocolate to khinkali-shashlik.
