About this experience
This journey to the northern Czech Republic and even a little beyond will offer you incredible views of the Jizera Mountains, acquaintance with the lifestyle of Czech aristocracy and a type of beer that cannot be found in Prague. You will visit a city where the borders of three countries intersect, discover the culture of the Lusatian Slavic tribe, learn what different towns in the Czech Republic are known for, and how the Duke of Friedland became famous worldwide.
What to expect
Aristocrats' residence and the most famous Czech
Old Friedland Castle will reveal the life of the Czech nobility to you - it is the only residence in the country where the architecture has been preserved in its original form: all buildings from the Romanesque tower to elements in Baroque and Renaissance styles have come down to us. I will tell you about how the castle operated in a 'museum' mode as early as the 19th century, as well as about the theory that the Amber Room is hidden here. After visiting the castle, we can have lunch at the recreated Friedland brewery. The beer brewed in these parts can only be purchased in the Czech capital through acquaintance. And of course, you will definitely learn about the fate of the Duke of Friedland - Albrecht Eusebius Walenstein, famous to the same extent as Jan Nepomuk and Charles IV.
The city of Lusatian Serbs and Czech brands
On the way, we will talk about the 'Skoda' brand, one of the oldest schools in Europe for processing gemstones and Bohemian garnets - treasures of Czech soil, about the cities of Mladá Boleslav, Turnov, and Jičín, each of which is interesting in its own way. After Friedland, we will immediately head to Litava, or Zittau in German. This city is where the borders of three countries meet: Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic, and it is inhabited by the Lusatian Serbs, a tribe of Sorbian Slavs. You will not only stroll through the streets of Litava, admiring the nature and the way of life in northern Czech Republic but also immerse yourself in the traditions and culture of the local residents, which they carefully preserve.
