About this experience
The architecture of the Left Bank of Tbilisi radically differs from the Old Town. The historical center is typical Eastern, while on the Left Bank everything reminds of European capitals: clear layout, straight streets, bright facades, and Art Nouveau style buildings. This is due to the peculiarities of the settlement and development of the area in the 19th century. We will gladly reveal its history and architectural palette to you!
What to Expect
You will see:
- The famous Art Nouveau-era cinema;
- A velodrome from the early 20th century;
- Houses designed by famous architects of the Art Nouveau era;
- A Catholic cathedral resembling Roman models;
- Luxurious Art Nouveau example - the Kote Marjanishvili Theater.
You will learn:
- Who preferred to live in this district of Tbilisi;
- How eastern motifs intertwine with European strictness in the houses' appearance;
- Why Tbilisi Art Nouveau is understudied and considered 'insignificant art';
- How the reconstruction of Agmashenebeli Avenue and adjacent streets took place.
