About this experience
Lush tropical nature, ultra-modern skyscrapers, temples of different religions, colonial monuments - all this is Kuala Lumpur, a colorful mix of East and West, traditions and innovations. During this walking and driving tour, you will visit places that illustrate the most important features of this unique city, and create a complete picture of the Malaysian capital.
What to Expect
The most interesting and picturesque places of the city
- We will start with the Chinese temple Tian Hou (Thean Hou) - the largest, most beautiful, and mysterious temple in Kuala Lumpur. We will explore the features of this multi-level structure, the symbolism of local shrines, and discuss the significance of the temple for the city residents.
- Continuing along the colorful street of Brickfields (Little India), we may stop to admire the colorful Indian saris and make some purchases.
- Our next stop is the majestic Royal Palace - a prominent landmark and pride of the capital. As it is a functioning residence, we will admire it from the outside. You will have the opportunity to take photos at the main gates of the palace with the equestrian and foot guards of the King of Malaysia.
- An additional historical site on our route is the Old Railway Station, built in Moorish style in 1917 during British colonization.
- We will see the historical building of Galeri Kuala Lumpur. Currently under reconstruction, you will still have the chance to take photographs.
- Next, we will visit one of the most beautiful mosques in the city - Wilayah Persekutuan Mosque. Local volunteer guides will talk about the architectural features of the building, which incorporate Persian, Egyptian, Ottoman, Moroccan, and Malay influences, as well as delve into the history of Islam's arrival in Malaysia.
- Following this, we will reach the country's main square - Independence Square. Here, the highlight will be the impressive buildings of the British Empire: the Sultan Abdul Samad Palace, Selangor Royal Club Cricket, the active Anglican church of St. Mary, the Press Room, and other attractions that reflect the colonial heritage.
- I will then take you to the place where all the city's roads converge - the Zero Mile Marker with a view of the Jamek Mosque and the Central Market.
- The Petronas Twin Towers - a must-see in Kuala Lumpur. We will leave these for the finale to end the journey on a vibrant note. The view of the skyscrapers will add the final touch to the city's contrasting image, where East, West, traditions, and innovations blend into the diverse tapestry of Kuala Lumpur.
Along the way, you will also learn about the peculiarities of Malaysia's multicultural society. Why is it not common to wear yellow? What restrictions are there on using the left hand? What do locals avoid discussing with each other? How do you cross the road on a green light? Discover these and other intriguing facts during our meeting!
