About this experience
If you can clearly smell the Georgian bread aroma of 'shoti' and hear 'vaime', 'vuime', 'genatsvale', 'chirime', congratulations, you are in Tbilisi! Let's take a stroll through its colorful streets? I will tell you about old Tbilisi professions, the Tbilisi dialect, discuss royal dynasties in the Daredjan palace. Our program will also include several ancient temples that beautifully illustrate the centuries-old coexistence of different religions and cultures.
What to Expect
The main charm of Tbilisi is its people
Tbilisi has always been multicultural, multinational, and multiconfessional. The main charm of it is its people. I will tell you about the 'Tbilisi language,' through which the locals recognize each other anywhere in the world. I will show you the palaces of Georgian kings (existing and disappeared), darbazi - a medieval home of a wealthy townsman. You will see where the working class lived. I will tell you about old Tbilisi professions - dabakhi, mukha, tulukhchi, jamadari. I will teach you to distinguish between two vivid types - karachogheli and kinto. We will mix in the medieval crowd at Tatar Square and inhale the smell of sulfur baths. We will walk through cool narrow streets where children play ball (including hitting passersby's feet) and recite counting rhymes.
Ancient Temples and Churches
Our tour will include several ancient temples: Christian, Muslim, and even pagan Zoroastrian. You will see the Metekhi Church, the Abo Tbileli Church on the bank of the Kura, a mosque, the Surb Gevork Church, and the Zoroastrian Temple Ateshga. You will learn how different religions peacefully coexisted here for centuries, and what a unique atmosphere of openness and hospitality has lived in Tbilisi all this time.
