About this experience
Step back in time to Great Armenia and discover the events during the rule of Tiridates III. Behold the majestic Mount Ararat and the ancient monasteries of Khorenavank and Noravank. I will tell you about the remarkable life of Saint Gregory the Illuminator and how Christianity was adopted in Armenia. Cap off the experience with a culinary master class.
What to Expect
Sacred Mount Ararat
We will arrive at the foot of the biblical mountain where Armenia meets Turkey. You will enjoy picturesque views of the snow-capped peaks of dormant volcanoes and emerald fields while I narrate the story of Mount Noah, the prohibition of its climb, and the search for the famous ark.
Meeting Place of the Two Apostles
Armenia was the first state to adopt Christianity, and Khorenavank is the monastery where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for his faith. Descending into the prison, you will understand how survival was only possible with God's help and be amazed by the strength of the elder's spirit – I will reveal the story of how a former prisoner became a state advisor. I will guide you through the monastery complex, exploring the ancient chapel and the Church of the Holy Mother of God. We will also reach the meeting place of the apostles Thaddeus and Bartholomew, where a memorial cross is erected.
Next on our itinerary is the Noravank Monastery, built in the IV–XIII centuries amidst picturesque red cliffs. On its grounds, you will see a unique two-story church with narrow cantilever staircases.
Visit to a Winemaker
In the village of Areni, you will taste wine at the winery. The excursion culminates with a master class on making kebabs (optional: shashlik in the tandoor) and homemade wine at the local winemaker's home. Amidst a festive table, you will learn about our people's traditions and enjoy the local cuisine.
