About this experience
We invite you to immerse yourself in Armenia's cultural and historical heritage! From Tbilisi, we will head to the vibrant Armenian landmarks. You will explore ancient khachkars at the Akhtala Monastery, stroll through the streets of the ancient town of Alaverdi, discover the exhibits at the Mikoyan Brothers House-Museum, and enjoy a hearty lunch included in the price.
What to Expect
Akhtala Monastery: One of the largest monastery complexes with unique features of Armenian medieval architecture: picturesque views, harmony with the surrounding environment, and territorial balance. We will explore churches, khachkars, visit the chapel, bell tower, and dining hall. Uncover the historical significance of the Akhtala fortress and discuss legends associated with its name.
Lunch with an Armenian Family: Taste homemade dishes, fragrant coffee, and experience the atmosphere of a traditional Armenian meal. We will discuss culinary traditions and local cuisine specifics at the table.
Alaverdi: This ancient town stretches on the steep banks of the Debed River amidst picturesque wooded mountains. Observing Alaverdi from above, you will note the sharp contrast of the mountain range with Soviet-style multi-story buildings. This place resembles a part of a large city transplanted into landscapes of pristine beauty.
Mikoyan Brothers House-Museum: On the day of opening in 1982, two valuable exhibits were brought here from Moscow: the MIG airplane and Artem Mikoyan's official car. Explore the museum's collection and learn about the brothers' contribution to Armenia's political and social history.
Sanahin Monastery: Founded in the 10th century, it houses the oldest Armenian library. The guide will enlighten you about the monastery's influence on the country's religious and cultural life.
