What to Expect
Estonian Lighthouses Stories
Estonia is a tiny island nation, so getting to the lighthouses from Tallinn is easy. We will explore the surroundings of the capital and visit the most unusual and romantic coastal towers:
- You will see Lower Suurupi from the mid-19th century - the oldest and only active wooden lighthouse in Estonia. We will take atmospheric photos near the 18-meter structure and talk about the keepers of the lighthouse in the third generation.
- We will also visit Upper Suurupi - a massive white lighthouse that has been warning ships about approaching reefs since 1760. You will learn about the techniques used on lighthouses in the past, and from the height of the observation balcony, you will enjoy a wonderful view of Tallinn Bay and Lahemaa Bay.
- The third giant on our way, the 73-meter Pakri - the tallest lighthouse in Estonia. The crimson tower with a black lantern on the edge of the sea cliff will surely be one of the most impressive Estonian landscapes for you.
Charm of the Seacoast
On the way to the lighthouses, you will have a chance to admire the 25-meter Pakri limestone cliff on the eponymous peninsula, be inspired by the landscapes of Paldiski and the history of this ancient town. I will be happy to tell you about the features of the area through which our route will pass, and the coastal nature of Estonia. And, of course, special attention will be paid to the theme of lighthouses: I will share stories of their construction and talk about the most romantic profession in the world - lighthouse keeper.
