About this experience
On this excursion, you will have a unique opportunity to visit the largest active volcano in Europe, learn about its unusual features and centuries-old influence on people and the environment, hear myths and legends associated with it.
About the volcano
On June 21, 2013, Mount Etna in Sicily became one of the sites under UNESCO protection as "the most active and iconic volcano in the world." Indeed, the volcano's history spans half a million years, with the last 2700 years of documented activity: "Etna's history is the longest history of volcanic activity in the world." Etna remains the most interesting site for researchers - geologists, geophysicists, volcanologists, as well as for ordinary people who love natural wonders and unique landscapes.
Route
I will take you to the southern slope of Etna, from where you will ascend to the summit by funiculars. During the excursion, you will realize that Etna is a separate world, with its large and small towns at the foot and on the slopes, agricultural lands, vineyards, and forests. Each slope has its own unique appearance, you can find almost all climatic zones here - starting from subtropics.
As the next stage of the route, upon your request and for an additional fee, you can visit a winery in the vicinity of Etna. I do not like mass-produced products, so I never take guests to dubious wineries where a bus with tourists stops every half an hour, 40 people get off and try who knows what in plastic cups with a feeling of being part of a conveyor. We visit small family-run wineries, where you can not only stroll through the vineyards, see the production process, and taste wines, but also casually chat with the farm owners.
