Etna - active volcano in Sicily

Etna is the largest active volcano in Europe. Its height is 3550 meters above sea level, the area is 1250 sq. km. As a result of lateral eruptions, Etna has more than 400 craters. On average, the volcano erupts lava once every three months.

What to expect

If after climbing to the Silvestre crater, you need more excitement, at this stage of our trip you can continue the excursion on your own: for 60 euros you can take a cable car up to a height of 2550 meters above sea level to the active craters. Be sure to bring warm clothing: it is always windy and cool at the top of the volcano, the temperature drops by 10-15 degrees! You can also rent clothes for 1-2 euros. Then get into a jeep and in 15 minutes - you are practically at the top of Etna. Here you and other tourists will be greeted by a guide who will tell you about the volcano in English or Italian. He will take you to a semi-active crater, which now emits air vapor and some gas instead of lava, show where the last eruptions were.

We can combine a visit to Mount Etna with one of the following interesting destinations:

• a walk in the city of Taormina. This is one of the most famous Sicilian resorts, located on the slope of Mount Tauro, offering a stunning view of Etna;
• a tour of the Villa del Casale. A world-famous ancient Roman villa, built in the 4th century BC, today is on the UNESCO list. Here you will see 3.5 thousand sq. m of well-preserved mosaics from the Roman Empire era;
• shopping at the outlet "Sicilian Village". All major Italian brands are represented here: Armani, Dolce&Gabbana, Versace, Gucci, Trussardi and others.
