What to Expect
Ovcar-Kablar Gorge
On the way from Belgrade, you will pass through the gorge amidst the Ovcar and Kablar mountains. The West Morava River winds intricately between steep slopes. You will learn why the gorge is also called the Serbian Holy Mountain or Serbian Athos. At one of the mountain huts by the river, we will offer a breakfast stop.
Shargan Eight
Upon reaching the mountain village of Mokra Gora, you will embark on a short journey on a train that travels in the form of an eight. You will pass through tunnels, bridges, and picturesque mountain ridges. Along the way, you can disembark at stops to admire the views from observation platforms.
The construction of the railway between the village of Mokra Gora and the Shargan Pass was initiated as part of a project to connect Bosnia and Serbia. The popularity of the Shargan Eight grew when the famous Emir Kusturica film 'Life is a Miracle' was shot here. Sets were built for the filming, which became part of the tourist complex.
Drvengrad: the village where Emir Kusturica lives
Upon your return, you will stroll through the village built by the director. The village comprises about 30 wooden houses constructed without a single nail. Even the streets are paved with wooden blocks. They are named after famous figures in the world of cinema. There is also Diego Maradona's market, Bill Clinton's prison, a graveyard of Hollywood films, and much more.
The tour will take half an hour, and then you will have free time for lunch at a Serbian cuisine restaurant before we head towards Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Crossing the border, we will head to Visegrad. On the way, you will see the Dobrun Monastery on the Rzav River - one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries in the country.
In Visegrad, you will encounter a city within a city - Kamengrad, or Andricgrad. Also built by Kusturica, it is dedicated to the Yugoslav writer Ivo Andric, a Nobel laureate. Additionally, you will explore the famous Turkish bridge, the Mehmed Pasha bridge. This is an important monument of medieval Turkish engineering art. It is listed in UNESCO World Heritage.
