Cheeses, Prosciutto, Pizza, Wine, Pastries, and Other Delicacies of Italian Cuisine
About this experience
Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Rome by dining in the favorite restaurants of locals, visiting the same bakeries and grocery stores where picky Romans go for biscotti and Parmigiano. Discover the world of Italian wines with their history, tasting nuances, and food pairings. Stroll through the ancient streets of Rome, uncovering their histories and trying national cuisine in the most delicious spots of the beloved Trastevere district by Romans. Feel like a true Italian - cheerful, carefree, and endlessly happy, mamma mia santo cielo, another day well spent!
What to Expect
Beloved Gastronomic District of Romans
Rione Trastevere for our walk is not chosen by chance: it is not only the oldest but also the most authentic part of Rome with a labyrinth of cobblestone streets, laundry drying on ropes, and trattoria tables covered with white and red checkered tablecloths. During the day, it is quiet and deserted here, and in the evening, hundreds of restaurants open their doors to noisy food and drink lovers. You will walk through picturesque ancient alleys of the district, hear stories about the history and peculiarities of Italian cuisine, immerse yourself in the world of Italian wines, learn all about the traditions and way of life of Italians, and of course, taste the main Italian dishes in the favorite establishments of locals!
- Cheeses and Prosciutto in the ancient cheese and meat shop Antica Caciara. Together with Signor Roberto, whose family has been running this shop since 1900, we will talk about different types of cheese, Italian ham, and sausages, as well as how to choose and store them. You will taste the most valuable - authentic Parma ham Prosciutto di Parma, Speck Alto Adige, Milanese salami, Pecorino Romano sheep cheese, popular since the times of ancient Roman legionnaires, and the unique 30-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano made from raw milk! Despite globalization, real Parmesan is only made and aged in the northern regions of Parma and Reggio.
- Tasting Italian wines at the cult enoteca Ferrara. Unlike tourists, Italians start their evening with a glass of wine and a traditional aperitif. At the sacred 6:00 PM, the doors of bars and enotecas open, creating a special atmosphere that you will feel! You will be offered one of the 3 main Tuscan wines - the noble red wine Nobile di Montepulciano, and for white wine lovers - aromatic Traminer from the slopes of the Italian Alps. You will learn about the best wines of Italy, secrets of wine selection and pairings with dishes, how to 'read the label,' and taste wine 'Italian style.'
- Roman pizza baked before your eyes! Everyone knows the hidden pizzeria on a small picturesque street here in Trastevere. The pizza at 'IVO' is made from 100% natural and yeast-free dough, making it easily digestible. This means there is always room for several types of pizza and toppings! You will be offered pizza with gorgonzola and pear, 'Diavola' with spicy salami, and of course, 'Margherita' with buffalo milk mozzarella and fresh San Marzano tomatoes. You will see how your pizza is prepared: the dough will be rolled out thinly, generously topped, and sent to the wood-fired oven for a couple of minutes. The pizza is ready!
- Homemade ice cream always with a twist. Maria-Grazia's ice cream can be recognized 'blindfolded' - only seasonal fruits and the best ingredients are used here: local hazelnuts from Lazio, pistachios and almonds from Sicilian Bronte, lemons from Sorrento... The recipes are so unique, and the ice cream is so light and tasty that one portion is never enough. And recommending flavors is a pointless activity, just in case: mango, cheesecake, pistachio, and dark chocolate cannot be missed!
You will see a completely different Rome, where instead of monumental buildings and Renaissance masterpieces, you will be greeted by dozens of intertwined colorful alleys with garlands of drying laundry and balcony flowers. Here, surrounded by family trattorias, noisy boys play football, and old men sit in chairs arranged in a circle playing cards, discussing politics and women... Here, hidden in every stone, ancient culture, history, legends, and destinies.
This tour is entirely dedicated to gastronomy, wine culture, and traditions of Italy. It will be interesting for anyone who wants to see Rome through the eyes of its residents, discover the favorite places and dishes of Romans, and immerse themselves in the local life of the Eternal City.
It will be delicious, interesting, and informative!

Highest score for organization and conduct! We have been to Italy before, interested in Italian cuisine. And still learned a lot of new and interesting things, found out the addresses of places where we had delicious and inexpensive lunches the rest of the days of the trip. Thank you from the heart!
