About this experience
Prague guidebooks recommend looking up while wandering the streets, and it's a great idea - there will be plenty of impressions! The best way to learn about the Czech capital is through its towers - Prague has been called the 'Hundred-Spired City' for almost two hundred years. I have selected the most interesting towers and created a route through the historical center that will appeal to lovers of dates, names, and unexpected discoveries.
What to Expect
Prague boasts a variety of towers: bell towers, defensive towers, watchtowers, and even water towers... If you count them all, there are 120. Each tower has a past hiding something more within. The excursion route includes several towers that can rightfully be called the city's landmarks:
- Powder Tower - standing 'lonely in the wild north' as described by Lermontov's verses. I will tell you what its surroundings were like and why it remains solitary. Try to imagine the city walls, moats, and drawbridges to transport yourself back to Prague during the time of Wenceslas I.
- Jindrisska Tower - its appearance coincided with the birth of the New Town. We will discuss how this tower had to serve as a fortress and then undergo long restoration from wounds.
- Old Town Tower - built in the distant year of 1381, it vividly remembers the darkness of bloody stories, which I will share.
- Astronomical Tower - here we will view Prague from a height of 50 meters, briefly diverting from military history to engage in scientific discussions.
- Shtikovsky Water Tower - pondering how the city was supplied with water in ancient times as we gaze at it.
