About this experience
Embark on an exciting adventure that begins with the era of dinosaurs. Take a stroll through the reserve with a karst cave, a fantastic observation deck, and a Colchis forest. Admire the Martvili Canyon and its waterfalls. Are you ready to immerse yourself in the veil of history that stretches back to a time when even Georgian wine had not yet been invented?
What to Expect
Sweets and Wine for Breakfast
Traveling on an empty stomach, especially in Georgia, is strictly prohibited. Therefore, before the trip, we will treat you to traditional snacks, sandwiches, and wine. We won't leave even vegans hungry!
Sataplia Reserve
- Park of the Jurassic period Georgian-style. We will explore the dinosaur tracks and walk along the trail past life-size sculptures of prehistoric lizards.
- Bee Cliffs. The reserve was named after the wild bees that abundantly inhabited the cliff, offering a breathtaking view.
- Karst Cave. In the 300-meter long cave, you will see numerous stalagmites, and in one of the halls, the "Stone Heart" stalactite, which is over 20 million years old. There is also an underground river here where various cave creatures live.
- Observation Deck "Crystal Bridge". For many, this place may be the most interesting object of "Sataplia". An 800-meter high bridge with a transparent floor over a precipice and an indescribable view. On clear days, you will have a view of Kutaisi, Gelati Monastery, and a large part of all of Imereti.
- Colchis Forest and Museum. For botany enthusiasts, the last stop will be a real find. Many endemic plants that can only be found here will not leave you indifferent.
Martvili Canyon - Valley of Waterfalls
You will admire emerald waterfalls and if you wish, you can raft the waters of the "holy spirit" canyon among sharp rocks and ivy. The 2400-meter long canyon consists of upper and lower parts separated by a sandy spit. In the lower part, there is a hiking trail and several viewpoints with views of waterfalls, while the upper part is accessible for boating.
On the walk, you will see man-made wonders on the banks of the canyon - a water mill and baths where princes of Dadiani, rulers of Megrelia, rested two centuries ago. The canyon is an ideal place for photos: the sunny sky and blue water merge into a fairytale landscape.
