What to Expect

Gothic castle and mystical bone chapel
40 minutes away - and we are in Czech Sternberg, a medieval castle above the Sazava River. You will be struck by how picturesque it is located - on top of a cliff, protected by two powerful towers and a deep ravine. You will learn the history of the castle and its owners and walk through luxurious halls adorned with stucco, portraits, exquisite chandeliers, sculptures, and noble trophies. Our next stop is the famous ossuary church. You will be surprised that the main element of its interior is human skulls and bones. Chandeliers, coats of arms, arches, vaults, and even crosses are made from them. I will tell you about the medieval tradition of building 'ossuaries' and reveal their symbolic meaning.

Silver town, miners, and magnificent church
The final part of the tour is a walk through the historic center of the town of Kutna Hora, famous for its silver deposits. You will stroll through the ancient streets, learn about the history of the town, and discover what life was like in Kutna Hora for medieval miners. You will also see a baroque plague column, the former mint, the Ursuline monastery, and visit the Saint Barbara's Church. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it amazes with its Gothic grandeur. I will tell the history of the great church and show interesting details in its interior: satirical figures, demons, and mythical creatures.
