About this experience
Just half an hour's drive from the capital of Armenia, you will find yourself in Ashtarak, where every guest will feel at home. I have been living here for 20 years and will help you see the city through the eyes of the locals - through paintings by artists, wine, and traditional cuisine. Masterpieces of ancient architecture will help you touch history, and the hospitable people will surround you with attention and care.
What to expect
Walking tour
I will meet you at the main square of the city - in ancient times, roads from Yerevan, Vanadzor, and Gyumri converged there. After admiring the whimsical fountains, we will dive into the stone labyrinth of streets, where every turn hides local legends. We will also explore historical facts - you will learn what a khachkar and azarashen-tyoshestroy are. We will definitely enjoy the view of the city from the steep bank of the river and the ancient bridge, which was part of the Great Silk Road. Along the way, we can visit an artist's house and examine the sights of Ashtarak on paintings.
Gastronomic part
Feeling hungry? I will tell you why we drink coffee with "love", how chocolate is made, and why the gata is round. With delicious stories, we will visit the city market and guest houses nearby - if you wish, you can learn to make traditional bread at a master class. Local craftsmen will talk about the national cuisine and let you taste authentic Ashtarak sudzhuk-sharots and alani made from peaches.
You can continue with a tasting of Armenian wine or a full lunch - in any case, the residents of Ashtarak will hospitably open the doors of their homes so that you can feel the unique atmosphere of this ancient city.
