About this experience
This excursion will take you deep into Sinai, where the oldest continuously operating Christian sanctuary in the world is located. In a group of up to 12 people, you will explore the buildings of Saint Catherine's Monastery, see the biblical Burning Bush and Moses' well, visit the library, and have lunch in Dahab by the sea on the way back.
What to Expect
- Tour of the monastery grounds. We will reach the sanctuary nestled in a picturesque valley between the mountains of Moses, Safsafa, and St. Catherine. Here you will explore key buildings - the Basilica of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ, the chapel of the Virgin Mary, see the biblical Burning Bush, and Moses' well. And of course, you will hear the history of the sanctuary, which has never been captured, damaged, or destroyed.
- Church service (if possible), during which the marble sarcophagus with the relics of Saint Catherine is brought out.
- Monastery museum and library, in scale and number of valuable manuscripts, second only to the Vatican. You will get acquainted with the artifacts of the collection, including the protective decree of the Prophet Muhammad, which was intended to protect the monastery and ensure peaceful coexistence of Christians and Muslims.
- Seafront lunch: on the way back, we will stop in Dahab to take a break and have a meal at a cafe by the sea.
