Group excursion from Yerevan to Garni and Geghard: from paganism to Christianity
About this experience
I invite you on a journey not only through mountains, but also through time. You will admire the famous Ararat and ancient Garni Temple. Hear ancient legends at the foot of the Geghard Monastery. Descend into the gorge to marvel at a natural wonder resembling a stone organ. And I will share with you stories and tales about the history of my country.
What to expect
Ark of Ararat.
Our first location on the route is the Ark of Ararat, which offers a magnificent view of the famous biblical mountain. I will tell you why the locals call this structure the arch of Yeghishe Charents.
Garni Temple.
You will see the only pagan temple preserved in Armenia. It is dedicated to the sun god, whom our ancestors called Ar or Mithra. I will share the legend about it. We will also discuss the numerology of the temple and explore the ruins of the rulers' residence and the 3rd-century royal bath.
Geghard Monastic Complex
It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The architecture of the monastery is unique - part of the building is carved directly into a large monolithic rock. You will learn why the monastery complex is called Geghardavank and hear the magical sound of its walls.
Symphony of Stones
This incredible natural creation is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The whimsical basalt columns will amaze you with their perfectly hexagonal profile. They are also called the 'tears of the volcano' and the 'stone organ'.
