About this experience
I invite you to explore the heritage of two colorful districts of Granada. In Albaicín, you will wander through the maze of the Moorish city and explore the Arab architecture. The streets of the lesser-known Sacromonte will reveal its Gypsy past and remind you of the vibrant flamenco. In both quarters, you will not only dive into history but also enjoy the views of the Alhambra - the 'ruby in the crown of Granada'.
What to Expect
Albaicín - a repository of Moorish folk architecture
Experts from UNESCO have awarded the oldest district of Granada with this status. Its winding streets will lead you to panoramic views of the city - Albaicín is located on a hillside. From here, you can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets in Spain, believe me! In Albaicín, you will be transported back to the heyday of Arab culture, learn how it manifested in local architecture, and see its examples: for example, houses surrounded by green gardens called 'carmen'. I will also tell you about the layout of the Arab quarter and what archaeologists have found here.
Legacy of the vibrant Sacromonte district
The streets of Albaicín lead to Sacromonte - a district in the Valparaiso valley, where the Darro River flows. Here, you will discover the peculiarities of local flora and fauna, strolling through the Mediterranean forest with pine trees and cacti. You will admire the views of the Alhambra - the masterpiece palace of Arab art. You will learn how the district is related to the Gypsies and immerse yourself in the history of flamenco - the passionate dance originated in Sacromonte. And of course, the famous caves-cuevas are on the program, where life still flows today. In the Sacromonte caves museum, I will tell you who and why created them, about the lifestyle in a cave-house, and about the crafts of the district.
