About this experience
In the small Andalusian city, tourists usually just pass through, however Cordoba is worth staying in for at least one day. Its architecture and history are woven with centuries-old traditions, and different peoples have created an amazing cultural symbiosis. On the tour, I will show you the main attractions of the city, tell you about its former glory and the heritage of the Romans, Muslims, and Jews. You will hear legends about famous historical figures associated with Cordoba, as well as learn about its modern life, unusual annual festival, traditional holidays, and local gastronomic features.
What to expect
Residence of Christian Kings
You will visit one of the main residences of the famous Christian kings Ferdinand and Isabella - the Cordoba Alcazar. I will introduce you to the history of this fortress and tell you about the first audience of Christopher Columbus, which took place right here. In the beautiful gardens of the Alcazar, we will talk about Arab traditions and the legacy of the civilization that greatly influenced the formation of the culture of southern Spain. And from the Tower of Lions, you will have incredible views of the city and its surroundings.
Heritage of Cordoba
A tour of the city is unthinkable without visiting its main attraction - the Alhambra Mosque, which for a long time was not demolished to build a Catholic cathedral in its place. As a result, you will be able to witness a rare symbiosis of two cultures under one roof - Muslim and Christian. In addition, the program includes a walk to the Royal Stables, the Roman Bridge, the Calahorra Tower, and the Albolaufia Mill. Also, the Golden Square - probably the smallest square in the world - the Street of the Seven Heads of Larra, which is considered the darkest place in the city, the Flower and Handkerchief alleys (one of the episodes of the popular TV show 'Heads and Tails' was filmed here), and leatherworking museums where craftsmen have preserved an ancient method of leather processing.
Jewish Quarter and Colorful Courtyards of Cordoba
In the Juderia district, you will wander through a labyrinth of narrow and winding streets, admire many interesting buildings and picturesque corners, and in the depths of the quarter you will see a synagogue - one of the three preserved in Spain. We will talk about the serious contribution of the Jewish people to the culture and traditions of Spain in general, and Andalusia in particular. Along the way, you will also visit the courtyards of private houses, known as patios. These 'oases' impress with their fairy-tale landscapes, thanks in part to the annual themed festival, during which 'competitions' are held here, and winners receive awards in various categories.
Insider's view
In addition to the well-known attractions in Cordoba, there are several hidden places worth visiting to complement your understanding of the life of the Andalusian city. I will take you to some religious schools, very interesting for their interior decoration, as well as to a historical building that houses a private club and hosts closed exhibitions and other events. In addition, I will recommend you some different establishments where you can watch flamenco shows, suggest excellent cafes 'for locals' beyond the Old Town, and share recommendations on how to best spend your time in the city, even if you are just passing through.
