About this experience
Tasting national cuisine is one of the most important components of any trip. I offer you not just to dine in a real village tavern, but to travel to places where traditional Cypriot delicacies are created, learn the history of these places and culinary traditions.
What to expect
In Cypriot taverns, you have probably tasted traditional pork delicacies: hiromeri, loukanika, pastirma, lountza, bacon, and others. We will visit a village smokehouse, where you will see how all these delicacies are prepared. Here you can try them not from plastic packages, but freshly, literally taken "off the grill". The host usually serves homemade red wine and hearty village hospitality along with the meat.
The mountain village of Agros is famous for its fields of damask roses - beautiful flowers known for their refined aroma. We will visit the "Rose Factory", where you will see how they make syrups, tea, rose water, liqueur, fragrant candles, and soap from rose petals. This place is unique in that only here, based on natural rose oil, cosmetics are made: lotions, creams, masks, aromatic oils, scrubs, shower gels, and even perfumes.
In Cypriot taverns, sweets called glyka are usually served for dessert - fruits, eggplants, watermelon rinds, citrus peels, young walnuts, and more boiled in sugar syrup. There are about 50 types of glyka! We will visit the "Nikis" factory, where they will show us how these sweets are made and treat us to them.
After that, we will ascend higher into the mountains to walk to a waterfall, and have lunch at a restaurant on a trout farm or in a traditional tavern in the village of Omodos, where you can taste authentic Cypriot shish kebab!
After lunch, we will stroll through the picturesque village and visit old wineries, where you can taste various types of Cypriot wines, as well as the famous Cypriot muscat, commandaria, and zivania.
