About this experience
Cyprus is famous for its rich ancient heritage and unique cuisine. We will head to the mountain villages where you will collect water from a holy spring, have lunch at a traditional tavern, visit locals, taste olive oil and mandarin jam. You will also pick dates from the trees, visit an ancient winery, and raise a glass of Commandaria!
What to Expect
Panagia Amiri Monastery and Apsi Village
Along the picturesque mountain road, we will visit the Panagia Amiri Monastery, home to a miraculous icon and a famous spring. We will share stories of the relics, and you will be able to fetch some healing water. You will walk through the well-kept monastery grounds, admire breathtaking mountain views. Afterwards, passing by mandarin and olive groves, we will arrive at Apsi. Here you will explore the ancient church, ring the bell for good luck, stroll along the stream on the village boulevard with antique lanterns, and if you're lucky, witness colorful Cypriot gentlemen gatherings.
"Pink Factory," Traditional Sweets and Meat Delicacies
You will visit the mountain village of Agros, famous worldwide for its fields of Damascus roses. We will tour the "Pink Factory," where syrups, tea, liqueur, fragrant candles, soap, and natural cosmetics are made from the petals. At the sweet factory, you will taste various jams made from walnuts, almonds, orange peels, pumpkin skins, and even carrots. And at the butcher's shop, you'll sample traditional Cypriot lountza, pork loin, goat ribs, and more.
Lanya - Village of Artists
We will take a stroll through one of the most beautiful villages on the island - Lanya. You will sense the special atmosphere created by photos of residents from the late 19th - early 20th centuries hanging on the walls of houses. We will see mini-museums - a winery, the house-workshop of a local: here you will find a wine press from 1822, a traditional olive press, antique items, and utensils.
Lunch and Winery
We will have lunch at the best tavern in the mountains, serving mountain trout, traditional meze, delicious stifado, and kleftiko. At the winery producing Commandaria wine, we will taste the famous Cypriot drink, which can be brought from the island as a souvenir.
