About this experience
Dear friends, securely fasten your camera to your hand, and even better - leave it at home to avoid any temptations! We are heading to the most diverse, colorful, multi-ethnic, dirty, and beautiful district of the city behind the Northern station. Through the thicket of postcard views and clichés - towards understanding the living and real Paris.
What to expect
Another Paris: the ethnic factor
In beautiful photos and scenes from movies, city images over time become artificial "implants" from the past. Going on a conveyor belt of sightseeing tours, they lose the most important thing - the connection with reality. During the stroll through the Golden Drop district (Gout d'Or), I want to show the vibrant and pulsating life of multifaceted Paris, with its problems, their history, and unfolding social metamorphoses. In an hour and a half, you will visit not one country, but several: at least that's the impression you will get when you see how Arabic signs give way to Indian ones, and lacy Ottoman houses merge into the crowd of street vendors.
History of migration
In the historically troubled district, you will learn about the origins and modernity of immigration to France, the risks associated with it, and how the poor from around the world adapt to life in the brilliant European capital. We will talk about transformations in the ethnic composition during the industrialization period, the emerging specific culture of migrant children, and the social challenges that, unfortunately, were inefficiently addressed.
City of light or darkness?
During the excursion, I will show the other side of the city of light. However, do not think that we are going into complete darkness! It is a contrasting walk in an ambiguous district, but I will try to prove that Paris is a city of peace, that diversity can be both a gift and a curse. It all depends on how you use it :) Oh yes, discussions about essential topics will subtly invade the conversation of a historical and architectural nature - about the metro and urbanism, the creative side of counterculture, and much more.
Who is this tour for
- Those who like asking themselves complex questions, want to see the vivid city, not just a postcard picture, and are interested in modern life in all its diversity.
- The walk is not suitable for people who cannot stand the sight of dirt and a colorful crowd.
- You can bring teenagers, but it's important to agree that we will be discussing socio-political questions.
