About this experience
I invite you to admire the famous squares, fountains, sculptures, and churches together! You will learn how the Eternal City looked in different eras and what events took place in it. You will also get a glimpse of its modern life. I will tell you where the Romans themselves like to walk, how they prefer to spend their free time, and share some amusing observations I have gathered over the years of living here.
What to Expect
Main Roman Squares
On Piazza Venezia, I will tell you about the birth of Italy and the allegories sculptors embedded in the Vittoriano monument. I will also show you the balcony from which Mussolini spoke. At Torre Argentina, where Julius Caesar was killed 2000 years ago, you will hear the legend of the great commander's death and discover which Roman fashion house sponsored the monument dedicated to him. At Piazza Navona, we will discuss the rivalry between two great sculptors: Bernini and Borromini.
Pantheon, Ancient Churches, and More
Strolling through narrow streets, we will find ourselves in the heart of medieval Rome and see the Pantheon, where Raphael is buried. I will explain how the building with a hole in the dome copes with rainy days and why the government decided to make its entrance fee-based. Additionally, I will show you beautiful ancient churches with Caravaggio's works and share stories about his mystical life. We will also visit the locations where famous movies were filmed: 'Eat, Pray, Love' and 'The Great Beauty'.
Coffee Break and Friendly Advice
If you wish, we will have a classic coffee together at one of the ancient establishments. I will tell you about its role in locals' lives, the peculiarities of Italian coffee culture, and where to buy quality coffee to take home. Finally, I will provide you with complete information on bars and restaurants where you can have breakfast, enjoy an aperitif, and try gastronomic specialties: pizza, pasta, tiramisu, and more.
