About this experience
Embark on a culinary journey to the best places of Dombay, where you will be introduced to the secrets of Karachay dishes. Famous 'sunny' hychins, various soups, shorpa, and shashlik - the variety is endless! You will enjoy large portions, beautiful presentation, and exquisite taste. Hospitable locals will welcome you as dear guests and treat you like old friends.
What to Expect
In Dombay, there is a kind old tradition: the guest sits at the head of the table, and all care and attention is focused on them. Want to experience the same? We have prepared a program that will allow you to 'embrace the unembraceable': mountain ranges, historical sites, and gastronomic pleasures.
Let's eat!
🏔 From Kislovodsk, we will head towards the highest mountain pass in Russia. On the way, you will hear about the most 'cheesy place' in Karachay-Cherkessia.
🏔 At the Gum-Bashi pass, you will taste Karachay flatbreads and high-mountain tea. You will learn about the varieties of hychins (there are more than 10!) and their connection to Turkic peoples and Tengrism.
🏔 In the village of Dombay, we will take a chairlift into the mountains. There, you will have lunch at a national restaurant serving North Caucasian cuisine. The menu will include the following dishes:
- Traditional soups: shorpa, upre, shhips, hinkel
- Corn flatbreads nartuk-chyrzhin
- Boiled chicken (cake)
- Lamb shoulder (jaw-orun)
- Liver sausage (sohta)
- Chicken ragout (gedlibzhe)
- Meat or chicken shashlik
- Pilaf
🏔 On the way back, we will visit a trout farm - try fishing with lessons on traditional fishing techniques. The caught fish will be cooked on the grill, and we will have dinner in nature.
