About this experience
Let's venture into a lost world - a ghost village among the mountain peaks. Surprisingly deserted only in 2015, we will tell you about the past of Dagestan's Machu Picchu, show you two picturesque hydroelectric power stations, and take you to the atmospheric Salta Gorge. And we will treat you to a lunch of traditional Caucasian dishes!
What to Expect
All is ghostly...
Our tour will start with a visit to Gamsutl. Along the way, I will tell you what makes this village famous and who lived there until 2015 when it was completely deserted. Once there, you will understand why locals called Gamsutl the Dagestani Machu Picchu and see houses' walls seemingly emerging from the rocks.
In this bustling world
Next, we will visit places where life is bubbling - quite literally! Along the KarakoySu River, you will see artificial waterfalls that appeared during the construction of the Gergebil and Gunib hydroelectric power stations. After exploring the mountain expanses, we will head to the shady Salta Gorge. You will witness how the river carved its way through rocks over the years and how beautiful an underground waterfall can be.
