About this experience
Not far from Rome are volcanic lakes, and on their shores are towns of amazing beauty. We will visit the 4 most picturesque ones: stroll through the homeland of Romulus and Remus, see a town in the crater of a volcano, appreciate the place of the summer residence of the Pope, and visit the town with the best strawberries. Everywhere we will taste the local cuisine and enjoy the views of Lake Nemi or Albano.
What to Expect
Albano, known for its ancient history. In its territory, in the early first millennium, there was the legendary city of Alba Longa, where, according to legend, the brothers Romulus and Remus were born. We will visit the Church of St. Peter and the ancient amphitheater of Severia. If desired, we will walk along the lake on a medieval path.
Ariccia, located in the crater of an ancient volcano. We will stop at the central square and admire the richly decorated Kiggi Palace. Ariccia is known for producing porchetta - roasted pork that is incredibly tender and delicious.
Castel Gandolfo, where the summer residence of the Pope is located. It's no wonder: the town attracts with its numerous gardens and breathtaking views of the lake. After walking through the historic center and visiting the Church of St. Thomas, we will go to taste local wines, salami, prosciutto, and cheeses.
Nemi - a town less pompous than Castel Gandolfo but more authentic. We will walk near the lake and visit medieval churches. One of them - the Sanctuary - is famous for its incredibly beautiful crucifix, believed by the townspeople to be made by the hand of the Almighty. In Nemi, we will taste the famous local delicacy - strawberries.
We will talk about:
